I am allergic to penicillin and was prescribed amoxicillin despite me querying the GP. I ended up with hallucinations of it snowing inside my house and seeing insects inside my veins.

I have had 7 days of Amoxicillin for pneumonia and the course finished this morning. I feel very much better but left with a residual cough and wheeze so being prescribed another antibiotic tomorrow when I have a follow up with the paramedic practitioner.

I appreciate the thinking on reducing prescriptions for antibiotics but when like myself you suffer with chest infections they are a necessity to start recovery.I only ever take the 7 day dose at times of need.

I was given Amoxicillin after a wisdom tooth removal to prevent infection in the open cavity of the gums. They're pretty standard antibiotics. I've had no symptoms and they've not been an issue to integrate into my daily routine.

Amoxicillin is a very good medication for infection. It has helped me over the years and cleared up all my infections that you use amoxicillin for. I always keep some in my medicine cabinet as I know what infection to use it for. But I will always get confirmation from my GP first.

Profile

Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that fights bacteria. Amoxicillin is used to treat many different types of infection caused by bacteria, such as tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, gonorrhea, and infections of the ear, nose, throat, skin, or urinary tract. Amoxicillin is also sometimes used together with another antibiotic called clarithromycin (Biaxin) to treat stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. This combination is sometimes used with a stomach acid reducer called lansoprazole (Prevacid).
